To do this, several techniques are utilized in addition to basic molecular biological methods based on PCR and gel electrophoresis. For instance, high-content-screening imaging systems for cellular phenotyping studies and flow cytometry with cell sorting capability to sort and culture special cell populations. Basic genomic studies can be performed by Sanger Sequencing. In addition, proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics and glycobiology studies can be carried out by means of mass spectrometry.
