Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS)

PerkinElmer NexION 5000 Multi-Quadrupole ICP Mass Spectrometer
Device Description
The NexION® 5000 multi-quadrupole ICP-MS is the first in its category to feature four quadrupoles and has been innovatively designed to meet and exceed the demanding requirements of ultra-trace elemental applications. It enables reproducible results by providing extremely low background equivalent concentrations (<1 ppt, including hot plasma) and exceptional detection limits, taking ICP-MS performance beyond conventional triple-quadrupole systems.

- The four-pole ion deflector (Q0) directs ions to the entrance of the first mass filter.
- Transmission Analyzer Quadrupole 1 (Q1, full-size for <0.7 amu mass resolution) acts as a mass filter or as an ion guide to direct ions to the Quadrupole Universal Cell.
- The Quadrupole Universal Cell (Q2), enhanced with dynamic bandpass tuning, prevents side reactions with residual gases in the cell.
- Transmission Analyzer Quadrupole 2 (Q3, full-size for <0.7 amu mass resolution) acts as a mass filter or ion guide to direct ions to the detector.
- Extended Dynamic Range (EDR) increases the linear dynamic range to 1012, enabling measurement at both high and low concentrations.
- Analysis of clinical fluids
- PM10 and PM2.5 air pollution monitoring and source apportionment in Asia using NexION ICP-MS
- Rapid ultra-trace analysis of contaminants in ultrapure water
- Ultra-trace determination of non-metallic elements in dilute nitric and sulfuric acid
- Blood analysis
- Analysis of metallic impurities in organic solvents
- Analysis of samples rich in rare earth elements
